This summer marks the first time in ten years that Weymouth will celebrate Great Esker Park Day. The event showcases the beautiful geological feature and informs the public on both the history and the remarkable importance of the park.

It is a free community event that promotes the public’s use of the town’s scenic, often hidden gem. The event will take place from 12-4 on August 6th at the George Clark Nature Center. Parking, as well as a shuttle, will be available at the Whipple Senior Center, located at 182 Green St. The event will host many fun activities for children and adults alike, such as archery, park tours, live music, crafts, canoeing, a ropes course, a Wildlife Center display, kayaking, and the New England Aquarium Tide Pool display.

The canoeing and kayaking will take place throughout the day at Rocky Bottom, with shuttles available at the nature center. Park tours will take place at forty-five minute intervals, directed by Great Esker Park staff members. The tours will focus on both the history and geological importance of the park. There will also be access to the new ropes course, located within the park. On site, there will be craft tables available for children as well as Great Esker Park T-shirts for purchase. The New England Aquarium will have their traveling tide pool demonstration and the Wildlife Center will also be on hand with an animal display.

TOPIC, The Order for the Preservation of Indian Culture, will also have a display on site, highlighting local Native American history. Burgers and hot dogs will also be prepared by the staff for the public. All the while, there will be live music echoing throughout the park for the public’s enjoyment. Local musicians, Nico River and Chris Lee, will split the day performing for the event. Weymouth Recreation and The Great Esker Park staff are extremely excited to resurrect this community event and hopes the public takes this opportunity to spend a day enjoying what is truly a breathtaking local treasure.

Gardin will be set up there with our friends at the New England Wildlife Center.  We hope to see you there!
